L’imperatore Niceforo I Logoteta (802-811): tradizioni letterarie in greco, arabo e siriaco

Abstract

La presente tesi analizza la costruzione letteraria della figura dell'imperatore bizantino Niceforo I Logoteta (802–811), attraverso un'indagine comparativa delle principali fonti narrative greche, siriache e arabe che ne tramandano la memoria. L'obiettivo dello studio non è la ricostruzione della biografia storica dell'imperatore, bensì l'analisi delle modalità con cui autori appartenenti a differenti contesti culturali, linguistici e confessionali ne hanno elaborato l'immagine, trasformandolo in un personaggio letterario funzionale alle rispettive visioni della storia, del potere e della Provvidenza.

This thesis examines the literary construction of the Byzantine emperor Nikephoros I Logothetes (r. 802–811) through a comparative analysis of the principal Greek, Syriac, and Arabic narrative sources that preserve his memory. Rather than reconstructing the emperor's historical biography, the study investigates the ways in which authors from diverse cultural, linguistic, and confessional backgrounds shaped his image, transforming him into a literary figure that served their respective conceptions of history, political authority, and Divine Providence.
