Seconde generazioni e percorsi educativi nei contesti periferici: il caso del centro Zenit al CEP

Abstract

Questa tesi si concentra sull'analisi dell'educazione come strumento di inclusione e costruzione dell'identità per i giovani di seconde generazioni che abitano in contesti urbani periferici. Partendo da una cornice teorico-sociologica del concetto di seconde generazioni, il lavoro approfondisce le principali teorie interpretative sull'integrazione, con particolare riguardo ai modelli assimilazionisti e strutturalisti, mettendone in evidenza sia i limiti che le potenzialità.

L'analisi si sviluppa nel contesto della città di Genova, con un focus specifico sul quartiere CEP di Prà, un'area caratterizzata da fragilità sociali, una consistente presenza di famiglie con background migratorio e una generale scarsità di risorse educative e culturali. La ricerca utilizza un approccio qualitativo basato su uno studio sul campo condotto presso il Centro Zenit, un punto di riferimento educativo e aggregativo del quartiere.

Attraverso interviste etnografiche rivolte ai giovani partecipanti alle attività del centro, la tesi indaga i loro percorsi formativi, le rappresentazioni identitarie, il senso di appartenenza al quartiere e le aspirazioni per il futuro. Emergono così il ruolo fondamentale degli spazi educativi informali nel contrastare la marginalizzazione sociale e culturale. I risultati mettono in luce l'importanza del Centro Zenit come presidio educativo e relazionale, capace di promuovere inclusione sociale, empowerment e coesione comunitaria.

In definitiva, il lavoro evidenzia l'importanza delle politiche educative locali orientate all’inclusione e alla valorizzazione delle diversità. Si sottolinea come l'educazione nelle aree periferiche possa fungere da motore di trasformazione sociale e da leva per la crescita personale dei giovani appartenenti alle seconde generazioni.

This thesis examines the role of education as a tool for inclusion and identity construction for young people belonging to the so-called second generations living in urban peripheral contexts. Starting from a theoretical and sociological framework of the concept of “second generations,” the study explores the main interpretative perspectives on integration, with particular attention to assimilationist and structuralist models, highlighting their limits and potentialities.

The research is set in the city of Genoa, with a specific focus on the CEP district of Prà, an area characterized by social fragility, a significant presence of families with a migrant background, and a lack of educational and cultural resources. The study adopts a qualitative approach and is based on field research conducted at the Zenit Center, an educational and community-based service operating in the area.

Through ethnographic interviews with young people attending the center, the thesis investigates educational pathways, identity representations, sense of belonging to the neighborhood, and future aspirations, emphasizing the central role of informal educational spaces in counteracting marginalization. The findings show that the Zenit Center represents an important educational and relational resource, capable of fostering social inclusion, empowerment, and the development of community ties.

In conclusion, the study highlights the importance of place-based educational policies oriented toward inclusion and the recognition of diversity, emphasizing how education in peripheral areas can act as a driver of social transformation and individual growth for second-generation youth.
