Definizione e Sviluppo di Strumenti Teorici per l’Analisi di Reti Complesse:un’Applicazione in Criminologia
Buscaglia, Sara <2001>

A. Ficara e il Prof. G. Fiumara, il cui interesse per il quadro proposto e per i risultati preliminari ha fornito ulteriore motivazione in questa direzione di ricerca.; Motivated by the work of Cavallaro et al. on the disruption of Sicilian Mafia networks, this thesis investigates whether the cohesion and robustness of a graph can be studied through its intrinsic structure. Two main theoretical contributions are introduced. The first is a family of centrality measures based on \(k\)-clique communities, including the \(k\)-clique community centrality and its generalised version, together with an auxiliary centrality based on atomic communities. The second is a general framework for comparing finite collections of sets, extending classical measures such as the Jaccard similarity and the overlap coefficient to entire community subdivisions.

These tools lead to the development and Python implementation of two algorithms: a community detection algorithm, which identifies the graph structure best reproducing a given subdivision, and a graph disruption algorithm, which studies robustness through progressive vertex removal. The two algorithms are designed to interact, allowing the detected structure to guide the choice of centrality measures.

The framework is applied to the meetings network reconstructed from the judicial documents of the 2007 Montagna anti-Mafia operation. The results show that \(4\)-clique communities provide the closest approximation to the original subdivision into Mafia clans, while the proposed centralities effectively target these cohesive structures. Several known Mafia bosses and other key figures appear among the first removed vertices, showing a correspondence between the structural information captured by the proposed measures and the known organisation of the network. The approach was also discussed with Dr. A. Ficara and Prof. G. Fiumara, whose interest in the framework and preliminary results further encouraged this research direction.

Ravera, Beatrice <1998>
The development of multi-articulated prosthetic hands makes it increasingly important to investigate movement strategies capable of reproducing not only the final configurations of the human hand, but also the kinematic and temporal patterns through which they are reached. This thesis investigates the intra-digit coordination between the metacarpophalangeal (MCP) and proximal interphalangeal (PIP) joints of the fingers, with the aim of extracting information that can support the definition of bio-inspired motion strategies for the DexterHand prosthetic system.

The analysis is based on kinematic data acquired with a CyberGlove and included in the NinaPro DB8 dataset. Temporal coordination is studied by identifying the onset of flexion and extension phases and quantifying the delays between MCP and PIP, which are subsequently analyzed using descriptive methods and linear mixed-effects models. In parallel, joint angles are used to reconstruct fingertip trajectories through forward kinematics. Different repetitions are compared through a normalized arc-length reparameterization, allowing representative mean trajectories to be obtained.

Finally, these trajectories are considered as a reference for a preliminary application to the DexterHand geometry, highlighting the differences between human and prosthetic kinematics and the need for dedicated retargeting strategies.

The main subject of this work of thesis is to prove that the absolute integral closure of a local Noetherian domain of positive characteristic, which is also the homomorphic image of a Cohen Macaulay ring, is a balanced Big Cohen Macaulay algebra. To do this we follow the work of Quy Pham Hung in its article called "Attached primes of local cohomology modules under localization and completion". We first give an introduction to absolute integral closure and we will give describe the absolute integral closure of the formal power series in one variable with coefficients in an algebraically closed field, both in zero and positive characteristic. We also give an introduction to attached primes and secondary representation and, in the last chapter, we present some application of the main theorem to old homological conjecture.

On the Distribution of Sequences Supported on Sums of Two Squares under Type I/II Conditions

On the Distribution of Sequences Supported on Sums of Two Squares under Type I/II Conditions
Bonantini, Mattia <1998>
\[
\sum_{\substack{x/2<n\le x\\ n\in \bold{B}}} a_n \sim \sum_{\substack{x/2<n\le x\\ n\in \bold{B}}} b_n,
\]

Tipo~I/II implica $C^-=C^+=1$, fornendo l'asintotica desiderata.

Questo estende parzialmente la teoria di Ford–Maynard dai primi agli interi rappresentabili come somme di due quadrati.; Inspired by the work of Ford and Maynard on prime--producing sieves, given a non-negative sequence $(a_n)$ supported on $(x/2,x]$, we study when it admits an asymptotic formula when restricted to integers that are sums of two squares. More precisely, given a simple comparison sequence $(b_n)$, we investigate whether Type I and Type II estimates are sufficient to guarantee
\[
\sum_{\substack{x/2<n\le x\\ n\in \bold{B}}} a_n \sim \sum_{\substack{x/2<n\le x\\ n\in \bold{B}}} b_n,
\]
as \(x\to\infty\), where $\bold{B}$ denotes the set of integers representable as a sum of two squares. This partly extends the methods of Ford-Maynard, which were concerned with the case when $\bold{B}$ is the set of prime numbers.

Following the framework of Ford-Maynard, we introduce constants $C^-(\gamma,\theta,\nu)$ and $C^+(\gamma,\theta,\nu)$ describing the optimal lower and upper bounds obtainable from these estimates alone.

We show that when $(\gamma, \theta, \nu)$ satisfies some simple conditions, then
Type~I/II implies $C^-=C^+=1$, yielding the desired asymptotic. Conversely, if the conditions fail,
we construct explicit counterexamples showing that $C^-~<~1~<~C^+$.

As in Ford and Maynard's work, our analysis relies on a truncated Linnik identity for vectors, a geometric study of particular
sets $\mathcal{R}$ and $\mathcal{C(R)}$, and a refined use of Type I/II estimates over short intervals. Additionally, we introduce an analysis of small prime divisors in this argument. This partly extends the Ford–Maynard theory from primes to integers representable as sums of two squares.
