Gli effetti delle guerre del XXI secolo sull'industria del trasporto marittimo di rinfuse secche: Somalia, Russia, Ucraina, Israele, Palestina e Yemen

Abstract

La seguente tesi si propone di analizzare quali sono stati gli effetti dei recenti eventi geopolitici verificatisi nel corso del XXI secolo sul commercio marittimo, con particolare attenzione al settore delle rinfuse secche e ai suoi cambiamenti dovuti alle ultime guerre che hanno coinvolto Somalia, Russia, Ucraina, Israele, Palestina e Yemen. La prima parte del lavoro inizierà con un'introduzione sul settore delle rinfuse secche per descrivere e sottolineare il suo ruolo e la sua importanza nell'economia globale. Verranno citate le principali merci secche alla rinfusa commercializzate in tutto il mondo, gli esportatori, gli importatori e le principali rotte marittime, per definire un quadro generale fondamentale per comprendere le fasi successive del lavoro. Dopo questa breve panoramica, si proseguirà cercando di descrivere nel modo più preciso possibile cos'è una guerra e quali effetti questo evento catastrofico può avere sulla catena di approvvigionamento marittimo globale facendo poi una digressione su quanto accaduto in Somalia dopo la guerra civile dei primi anni 2000. La seconda parte collegherà i due temi presentati nella prima: l'industria delle rinfuse solide e il tema della guerra e inizierà ad analizzare più nello specifico gli effetti dell'invasione russa in Ucraina. Si vedrà da entrambe le parti quali sono stati gli effetti sul trasporto marittimo di carichi secchi alla rinfusa, dal momento che l'Ucraina è ben nota per essere esportatrice di grano, minerale di ferro e acciaio, mentre la Russia ha dovuto affrontare sanzioni sulle esportazioni di carbone. Infine, nel terzo capitolo, verrà approfondita un'altra grande e recente guerra, partendo dal conflitto tra Israele e Hamas e arrivando ai suoi ultimi sviluppi collaterali con l'ascesa dell’associazione terroristica degli Houthi che agisce nel Mar Rosso creano l’ennesima interruzione del commercio marittimo mondiale di rinfuse secche.

The following thesis aims to analyze which have been the effects of recent geopolitical events that have occurred during the 21st century on maritime trade, with a focus on the dry bulk sector and its changes due to the latest wars involving Somalia, Russia, Ukraine, Israel, Palestine, and Yemen. The first part of the paper will begin with an introduction to the dry bulk sector to describe and highlight its role and importance in the global economy. The main dry bulk commodities traded around the world, exporters, importers, and major shipping lanes will be mentioned to establish a basic overview for understanding the next stages of the work. After this brief overview, it will continue by attempting to describe as accurately as possible what war is and what effects this catastrophic event can have on the global maritime supply chain with a little digression on what happened in Somalia after the civil war of the early 2000s. The second part will link the two topics presented in the first: the dry bulk industry and the theme of war, beginning to look more specifically at the effects of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. It will look from both sides at what the effects have been on the the dry bulk industry, since Ukraine is well known to be an exporter of grain, iron ore, and steels, while Russia has faced sanctions on coal trade. Finally, in the third chapter, another major and recent war will be explored in depth, starting with the conflict between Israel and Hamas and coming to its latest collateral developments with the rise of the Houthi terrorist association acting in the Red Sea creating yet another disruption of the global maritime dry bulk trade.
