Il cinema di Céline Sciamma: un ritratto dell'universo femminile

Abstract

La tesi ha come obiettivo l’analisi del lavoro di Céline Sciamma, cineasta francese. L'elaborato si articola in tre capitoli che si pongono l'obiettivo di ripercorrere la carriera della sceneggiatrice e regista in ogni suo passo, prendendo in considerazione le tematiche affrontate, le collaborazioni e le tecniche della messa in scena impiegate. Il primo capitolo tratterà i suoi lavori da sceneggiatrice, sia per i lungometraggi da lei diretti, sia per altri (spiccano le collaborazioni con André Téchiné e Claude Barras); il secondo si focalizzerà sui primi tre lungometraggi, ormai assimilati dalla critica ad una trilogia sulla giovinezza, che esplorano la nascita del desiderio e la mutevolezza dell'identità; il terzo capitolo verterà invece sul quarto e il quinto film, più lontani dai temi della trilogia essendo il primo una storia tra individui adulti, e il secondo un racconto legato al tema del lutto superato grazie alla fantasia. Si tratta di un progetto che tenta di mettere in luce la rilevanza che Sciamma ha acquisito nella scena cinematografica europea e mondiale grazie a lungometraggi e sceneggiature che pongono l'accento sui temi cari al femminismo contemporaneo e delle origini, quali la creazione del female gaze, l'impiego di protagoniste esclusivamente femminili e la rappresentazione di tematiche queer. Raccoglie l'eredità delle grandi figure che hanno composto il panorama cinematografico francese al femminile, le quali hanno aperto la via in passato per permettere a lei e alle registe contemporanee di poter operare al meglio.

The thesis aims to analyse the work of Céline Sciamma, a French film-maker. The work is divided into three chapters that aim to retrace the career of the screenwriter and director at every step, taking into account the themes addressed, the collaborations and the techniques of mise en scéne used. The first chapter will deal with her work as a screenwriter, both for the feature films she directs and others (notably collaborations with André Téchiné and Claude Barras); the second chapter will focus on the first three feature films, now assimilated by critics to a trilogy on youth, exploring the birth of desire and the mutevolousness of identity; the third chapter will instead focus on the fourth and fifth film, further away from the themes of the trilogy being the first a story between adult individuals, and the second a story related to the theme of mourning. This is a project that attempts to highlight the relevance that Sciamma has acquired in the European and world film scene through feature films and screenplays that focus on themes dear to contemporary feminism and its origins, the creation of the female gaze, the use of female protagonists and the representation of queer themes. She gathers the legacy of the great figures who have made up the French female film scene, who have paved the way in the past to allow her and contemporary directors to work at their best.
