La materia del vuoto

Abstract

L’architettura può essere considerata un sistema di controllo della luce solare? In quanto anche macchina generatrice di ombre l’architettura restituisce, attraverso la propria fisicità, la percezione della luce. Dentro “La materia del vuoto” vengono analizzate queste due manifestazioni della realtà, la luce e l’ombra. Vedendo come esista una complementarietà tra di esse e come, in particolare attraverso due letture citate, si percepisca come l’approccio ad esse nella creazione di architetture e ambienti possa essere vario. Segue, quindi, l’ipotesi di uno spazio in cui la luce naturale sia l’unico elemento di illuminazione e di conseguenza casa delle ombre. Ogni luce genera un’ombra, essa infatti non esiste in maniera isolata, ma come una conseguenza della manifestazione della luce e quanto più intensa è una tanto più intensa è l’altra. L’ombra conferisce anche movimento e mostra lo scorrere del tempo in quanto è transitoria, dipendendo dalla posizione e dall’intensità della luce.

Can architecture be considered a sunlight control system? As also a shadow-generating machine, architecture restores, through its physicality, the perception of light. Inside “The matter of emptiness” these two manifestations of reality, light and shadow, are analyzed. Seeing how there is a complementarity between them and how, particularly through two readings mentioned, we perceive how the approach to them in the creation of architecture and environments can be varied. There follows, then, the hypothesis of a space in which natural light is the only element of illumination and consequently the home of shadows. Every light generates a shadow; in fact, it does not exist in isolation, but as a consequence of the manifestation of light, and the more intense one the more intense the other. The shadow also gives movement and shows the passage of time since it is transitory, depending on the position and intensity of the light.
