Iacopo Bracelli e l'Umanesimo genovese

Abstract

Per via della sua posizione geografica e della conseguente vocazione marittima, è sempre stata preponderante la tesi secondo cui la città di Genova abbia sempre anteposto gli affari e gli interessi commerciali alle lettere. Il seguente lavoro si prefigge invece l’obiettivo di mostrare come sia possibile rinvenire caratteristiche proprie dell’Umanesimo anche nella Superba e nel territorio ligure – seppur non nella medesima misura di altri centri della penisola – con un nutrito gruppo di intellettuali che ne accolsero i sentimenti e le peculiarità. E fra questi ne spicca uno, su cui viene fatto particolare riferimento, che risalta per le capacità affinate durante tutta l’esistenza spesa fra l’ufficio di cancelleria e le ambasciate, ligure di nascita, assai legato alla sua terra di cui ne descrive fisionomia e storia: Iacopo Bracelli. Una figura chiave, di raccordo per tutti quei personaggi – letterari e non – che nella prima metà del XV secolo gravitarono su Genova, di cui viene esaminata la produzione scritta, con una speciale attenzione per la Descriptio orae ligusticae e il De bello hispaniensi.

Due to its geographical position and consequent maritime vocation, the thesis that the city of Genoa always put business and commercial interests before letters has always prevailed. Instead, the following work aims to show how it is possible to find characteristics of Humanism also in the Superba and in the Ligurian territory – albeit not to the same extent as in other centres of the peninsula – with a large group of intellectuals who embraced its sentiments and peculiarities. And among these, one stands out in particular, who stands out for the skills he honed throughout a lifetime spent between the chancellery office and embassies, Ligurian by birth, very attached to his land whose physiognomy and history he describes: Iacopo Bracelli. A key figure, a link for all those figures – literary and otherwise – who gravitated to Genoa in the first half of the 15th century, whose written production is examined, with special attention to the Descriptio orae ligusticae and the De bello hispaniensi.
