I danni ai musei e alle opere d'arte a Genova nella Seconda guerra mondiale: 1940-1945

Abstract

L’elaborato verte sui danni subiti dai monumenti storici e dai musei a Genova durante la Seconda guerra mondiale. L’obiettivo è presentare l’entità di queste perdite oltreché valutare la ricostruzione postbellica in ambito museale. Lo studio è fondato sull’osservazione delle fotografie scattate agli edifici in esame prima e immediatamente dopo le incursioni aeree. L’indagine ha dimostrato l’esistenza di aspetti sia positivi sia negativi della ricostruzione. Quelli negativi riguardano il carattere discutibile di molti interventi in rapporto ai più moderni criteri di restauro. Quelli positivi, invece, trovano spiegazione nella proficua valorizzazione degli edifici compromessi e delle loro collezioni. In conclusione, la ricostruzione funzionale di questi spazi costituisce un elemento di qualità nella progettazione museale postbellica oltreché una testimonianza della nuova cultura architettonica e museografica che a Genova ha trovato uno dei primi campi di applicazione a livello nazionale.

The paper focuses on the damage suffered by historical monuments and museums in Genoa during the Second World War. The aim is to present the extent of these losses as well as to assess the post-war reconstruction in museum. The study is based on the observation of photographs taken of the buildings in question before and immediately after the air raids. The survey showed that there were both positive and negative aspects of reconstruction. The negative ones concern the questionable nature of many interventions in relation to the most modern restoration criteria. The positive ones, on the other hand, are explained by the profitable enhancement of the compromised buildings and their collections. In conclusion, the functional reconstruction of these spaces is a quality element in post-war museum design as well as a testimony of the new architectural and museographic culture that in Genoa found one of the first fields of application at national level.
