Blockchain is transforming the digital world by providing a new perspective on the security, efficiency, and reliability of the system and data. It is a digital public ledger that is decentralized, distributed, and immutable, in which digital data is approved and shared with all users. This document presents a blockchain overview and the key concepts & principles underlying it. This thesis also explains that its concepts are applicable to a wide range of applications such as supply chain, health sector, banking & finance, and other industries where security and efficiency are critical. The rapidly growing railway sector is the next frontier for blockchain technology, with its groundbreaking use cases having potential for significant impact. Furthermore, the paper explores the cybersecurity aspects of this technology and its potential benefits for the railway applications. We implemented a basic blockchain network using hyperledger fabric that successfully ensured the integrity, confidentiality, and availability of the traffic signal data. Finally, the paper conclude by discussing the challenges encountered during implementation of this disruptive technology and outlines future research directions aimed at gaining more valuable insights into the cybersecurity aspects of blockchain.
