"Martini, Girls and Guns": analisi delle strutture narrative tipiche e dell'evoluzione dell'archetipo dell'agente segreto cinematografico dalla Guerra Fredda ad oggi

Abstract

Attraverso l’analisi di più di settanta pellicole e della trattazione saggistica legata al genere cinematografico dello spionaggio, questa tesi si propone di dimostrare come il personaggio dell’agente segreto abbia acquisito, attraverso gli anni e le narrazioni di diversi autori, scrittori e registi, una serie di caratteristiche tipiche, derivate da strutture narrative della cultura occidentale, archetipi psicologici ancestrali e dal contributo di fattori storico-politici. Capace di bilanciare le novità del mondo tecnologico con la tenuta delle strutture narrative del romanzo giallo e le funzioni alla base del Viaggio dell’eroe, il personaggio dell'agente segreto si è evoluto in un archetipo totalmente originale e precisamente caratterizzato, al punto che oggi si può annoverare, a diritto, al fianco degli archetipi ancestrali identificati dai narratologi. Questo elaborato intende descriverne le caratteristiche e gli effetti sulla cultura di massa, dalla nascita nel periodo della Guerra Fredda, ad oggi.

Through the analysis of more than seventy films and essays related to the espionage film genre, this thesis aims to demonstrate how the character of the secret agent has acquired, over the years and through the narratives of various authors, writers and directors, a series of typical characteristics, derived from narrative structures of Western culture, ancestral psychological archetypes and the contribution of historical-political factors. Capable of balancing the novelties of the technological world with the stability of the narrative structures of the detective novel and the functions underlying the Hero's Journey, the character of the secret agent has evolved into a totally original and precisely characterized archetype, to the point that today it can rightfully be counted alongside the ancestral archetypes identified by narratologists. This essay intends to describe its characteristics and effects on mass culture, from its birth in the Cold War period to today.
