"The Troubles" in Irlanda del Nord: un conflitto troppo spesso dimenticato.

Abstract

L'elaborato ha come argomento principale i Troubles, il conflitto che travolse l'Irlanda del Nord nel corso del XX secolo e le cui conseguenze sono ancora oggi tangibili sul territorio nordirlandese. Partendo da un'analisi di come si arrivò allo scoppio del conflitto, ho poi analizzato nei vari capitoli i principali eventi che si verificarono nel corso dei decenni, dedicando in particolare un capitolo agli anni Settanta, che si rivelarono il periodo più sanguinoso dei Troubles. Ho voluto dedicare ampio spazio al ricordo dei caduti, di cui spesso ho citato il nome e l'età, per tenere vivo il ricordo su questo conflitto che in Italia spesso non è nemmeno nominato sui libri di storia. Ho poi concluso la tesi con una breve analisi dei fatti più importanti del XXI secolo in conseguenza del conflitto.

The main topic of the paper is the Troubles, the conflict that engulfed Northern Ireland during the 20th century and whose consequences are still tangible in the country. Starting from an analysis of how the conflict broke out, I then analyzed in the various chapters the main events that occurred over the decades, devoting in particular a chapter to the Seventies, which turned out to be the bloodiest period of the Troubles. I wanted to dedicate ample space to the memory of the fallen, whose names and ages I often mentioned, to keep alive the memory of this conflict that in Italy is often not even mentioned in the history books. I then concluded my thesis with a brief analysis of the most important facts of the 21st century that happened as a result of the conflict.
