L'abito femminile nell'età moderna tra il XVI e XVIII secolo

Abstract

Questo articolo affronta lo studio dell’abito e della figura femminile nell’età moderna, in particolare dal Cinquecento al Settecento. L’elaborato si concentra sulla cultura dell’abito nelle popolazioni europee, e come nel corso di questi tre secoli il rapporto che le persone avevano con gli abiti sia cambiato. Muovendo i primi passi da un XVI secolo in cui la nobiltà e la borghesia cittadina erano vincolate dalle leggi suntuarie, l’attenzione si sposterà sulle corti, luoghi propulsori delle mode ed utilizzatrici delle stesse per veicolare valori e idee politiche. Finché nel XVIII secolo i centri della moda ritornano ad essere le grandi città urbanizzate dove le classi agiate; grazie ai progressi tecnologici, potevano permettersi di spendere le proprie ricchezze in abiti e accessori. In questo arco temporale si vede il passaggio da una moda come convenzione sociale, ad uno stile di abbigliamento dettato dal proprio gusto personale e dalle proprie idee.

This work focuses the study of the dress and the female figure in the Modern Age, from the Sixteenth to the Eighteenth century. This paper focuses on the culture of dress in European populations, and how over the course of these three centuries the relationship that people had with clothes changed. Taking the first steps from the 16th century in which the nobility and the city bourgeoisie were bound by sumptuary laws, attention will shift to the courts, places that propelled fashions and used them to export values and political ideas. Until in the 18th century the centers of fashion returned to being the most urbanized cities where the wealthy class; thanks to technological advances, they could afford to spend their wealth on clothes and accessories. In this period, we see the transition from fashion as a social convention to a style of clothing dictated by one's personal taste and ideas.
