Abstract

In this thesis, the theme of genre and queerness is addressed through some fundamental moments and present in the work Philaster, or Love Lies a-Bleeding by Francis Beaumont and John Fletcher. The perspective from which the work has been analyzed sees as its pivot the character of Bellario, alias Euphrasia, who, through the practice of crossdressing, manages to undermine the heterosexual and gender norms of the time, as well as propose a vision that would seem to be protofeminist.

In questo elaborato viene affrontata la tematica di genere e queerness attraverso alcuni momenti fondamentali e presenti nell'opera Philaster, or Love Lies a-Bleeding di Francis Beaumont e John Fletcher. La prospettiva dalla quale è stata analizzata l'opera vede come suo perno il personaggio di Bellario, alias Euphrasia, che mediante la pratica del crossdressing riesce a scardinare le norme eterosessuali e di genere dell'epoca, oltreché proporre una visione che sembrerebbe essere protofemminista.
