Traduzione e commento di un racconto per l'infanzia: "Snugglepot and Cuddlepie" di May Gibbs

Abstract

This thesis aims to provide a translation of a children’s short story: Snugglepot and Cuddlepie, written by the famous Australian writer and illustrator May Gibbs. The story has many linguistic and cultural items that make it extremely interesting both from a translation point of view and from a cultural point of view. The thesis is composed of a brief introduction that includes essential information on the life and the work of the author and on the story. Chapter two is the translation which is followed by a third chapter dedicated to the commentary which discusses the translation process. More specifically, the commentary analyses: the genre of the text and its cultural element, the idiomatic expressions, the translation of the names, lexicon and syntax, and the punctuation. The fourth chapter is a brief conclusion.

Lo scopo di questo elaborato è proporre una traduzione del racconto per l'infanzia Snugglepot and Cuddlepie, scritto dalla celebre scrittrice ed illustratrice australiana May Gibbs. Il racconto presenta peculiarità linguistiche e culturali che lo rendono estremamente interessante sia per un’analisi del processo traduttivo sia per approfondire la conoscenza della cultura australiana. La tesi è composta da una breve introduzione che comprende informazioni essenziali sulla vita e il lavoro dell’autrice e sul racconto. Segue poi la proposta di traduzione, accompagnata da un terzo capitolo dedicato a un commento nel quale si discute il processo traduttivo. Più precisamente nel commento vengono analizzati da un punto di vista traduttologico il genere del testo e l’elemento culturale che lo contraddistingue, le espressioni idiomatiche, la traduzione dei nomi, il lessico e la sintassi, l’interpunzione. Infine, il quarto capitolo è dedicato ad una breve conclusione.
