Opinione pubblica e inquinamento industriale: il caso della Eternit a Casale Monferrato

Abstract

Partendo da un'analisi delle vicende che hanno caratterizzato l'industria dell'amianto e, in particolare, dei prodotti in fibro-cemento, il lavoro analizza nel dettaglio il caso specifico di Casale Monferrato con tutte le implicazioni sociali e culturali dovute a una convivenza con l'inquinamento industriale della Eternit perdurata per oltre 70 anni. In ultimo si è tentato di dimostrare come la partecipazione comunitaria e l'informazione dei singoli cittadini siano stati gli strumenti più utili nell'affrontare il problema da parte della città. Per farlo un confronto con altre realtà analoghe, sia del "mondo dell'amianto" che di altri cicli produttivi per cercare di capire se quella intrapresa da Casale fosse la strada più giusta da seguire e perché.

Starting from an analysis of the events that have characterized the asbestos industry and, in particular, fiber-cement products, the work analyzes in detail the specific case of Casale Monferrato with all the social and cultural implications due to a coexistence with Eternit's industrial pollution that has lasted more than 70 years. Eventually, an attempt was made to show how community participation and information of individual citizens were the most useful tools in the city's dealing with the problem. To do this a comparison with other similar realities, both from the "asbestos world" and from other production cycles to try to understand if the one undertaken by Casale was the right path to follow and why.
