Quale libertà di fronte al totalitarismo? Václav Havel e Il potere dei senza potere.

Abstract

Cosa significa libertà in un regime totalitario? Come si può vivere in un totalitarismo e, nonostante ciò, affermare la libertà? Quale potere politico può essere detenuto da comuni cittadini che vivono in un regime di oppressione e manipolazione? A queste domande si vuole provare a rispondere in questo elaborato. L’analisi ha come oggetto l’esperienza totalitaria della Cecoslovacchia nel ’900 e la vita e il pensiero di uno dei protagonisti del tempo: Vaclav Havel. Egli fu drammaturgo, dissidente, prigioniero politico, Presidente della Cecoslovacchia e della successiva Repubblica Ceca. L’elaborato ha il fine di fornire alcuni elementi costituenti della libertà e mira a proporre una nuova chiave di lettura del significato di libertà in rapporto al totalitarismo ed in particolare al regime post-totalitario, presentato da Havel come il tipo di regime da lui subito. Il metodo di approccio al tema è stato quello dell’analisi degli scritti e dei discorsi di Havel; in particolare è stato utilizzato il libro Il potere dei senza potere (Moc bezmocných) come filo conduttore della tesi per comprendere il pensiero dell’autore, definire il sistema post-totalitario e, successivamente, reperire collegamenti per approfondire i vari aspetti del tema della libertà. I pensieri dell’autore ceco sono stati poi ricondotti a coloro a cui egli fece riferimento per la costruzione delle proprie idee, come ad esempio il filosofo Jan Patočka, al fine di ottenere un’analisi più completa. Successivamente è stata fatta una comparazione con altri autori e filosofi che si interrogarono sul tema e sugli elementi della libertà o sul totalitarismo, per osservare le similitudini, le analisi ricorrenti e per cercare delle possibili risposte. Quindi, quale libertà è plausibile di fronte al totalitarismo?

What does freedom mean in a totalitarian regime? How can one live in totalitarianism and yet still assert freedom? What political power can be held by ordinary citizens living in a regime of oppression and manipulation? These questions are sought to be answered in this paper. The analysis has as its subject the totalitarian experience of Czechoslovakia in the 1900s and the life and thought of one of the leading figures of the time: Vaclav Havel. He was a playwright, dissident, political prisoner, president of Czechoslovakia and the later Czech Republic. The paper aims to provide some constituent elements of freedom and aims to propose a new key to the meaning of freedom in relation to totalitarianism and in particular to the post-totalitarian regime, presented by Havel as the kind of regime he suffered. The method of approaching the topic was through the analysis of Havel's writings and speeches; in particular, the book The Power of the Powerless (Moc bezmocných) was used as the thread of the thesis to understand the author's thought, define the post-totalitarian system, and subsequently find links to explore the various aspects of the theme of freedom. The Czech author's thoughts were then traced back to those he referred to in the construction of his ideas, such as the philosopher Jan Patočka, in order to obtain a more comprehensive analysis. Next, a comparison was made with other authors and philosophers who wondered about the theme and elements of freedom or totalitarianism, in order to observe similarities, recurring analyses and to look for possible answers. Thus, what freedom is plausible in the face of totalitarianism?
