La diacronia degli atti cortesi nella lingua tedesca: un’indagine di pragmatica diacronica basata su un corpus di drammi.

Abstract

La seguente tesi dal titolo La diacronia degli atti cortesi nella lingua tedesca: un’indagine di pragmatica diacronica basata su un corpus di drammi nasce da un interesse per la pragmatica storica, nello specifico per la (s)cortesia storica. Tale disciplina si occupa di individuare e spiegare gli usi storici della cortesia e della scortesia, permettendo di capire come l’appropriatezza delle sue forme sia storicamente relativa. Lo scopo della tesi è analizzare le differenze nell’uso di strategie e formule cortesi nel passaggio storico decisivo tra XVIII e XIX secolo all’interno della lingua tedesca a partire da un corpus di quattro drammi. L’organizzazione del lavoro prevede un primo capitolo che fornisce il quadro teorico all’interno del quale inserire l’analisi, quindi introduce la disciplina della pragmatica storica, spiega il concetto di faccia e la teoria della faccia di Brown & Levinson, si occupa del campo di ricerca della (s)cortesia storica e, infine, fornisce una panoramica degli studi di pragmatica in area tedesca. Il secondo capitolo illustra il corpus di analisi, nonché la metodologia adottata. Il terzo capitolo ha il compito di spiegare brevemente le opere fornendone caratteristiche generali con un’attenzione particolare ai personaggi e al loro status sociale. I capitoli quattro e cinque sono dedicati agli atti linguistici e alle strategie rilevanti per l’analisi della cortesia rispettivamente per i secoli XVIII e XIX. Lo studio comprende sia un’analisi quantitativa degli atti al fine di mettere in evidenza i risultati più interessanti circa le strategie cortesi con tabelle e grafici, sia un’analisi qualitativa con considerazioni accompagnate da esempi significativi estratti dai testi. Questi dati, messi a confronto nel sesto e ultimo capitolo, permettono di individuare le principali tendenze diacroniche che hanno interessato le strategie cortesi all’interno della lingua tedesca.

The following thesis entitled The diachrony of courtly acts in the German language: an investigation of diachronic pragmatics based on a corpus of dramas stems from an interest in historical pragmatics, specifically historical (im)politeness. This discipline is concerned with identifying and explaining the historical uses of politeness and discourtesy, allowing us to understand how the appropriateness of its forms is historically relative. The aim of the thesis is to analyse differences in the use of politeness strategies and formulas in the decisive historical transition between the 18th and 19th century within the German language from a corpus of four dramas. The organisation of the work comprises a first chapter that provides the theoretical framework within which the analysis is to be placed, then introduces the discipline of historical pragmatics, explains the concept of face and Brown & Levinson's face theory, deals with the research field of historical (im)politeness and, finally, provides an overview of pragmatics studies in the German-speaking area. The second chapter illustrates the corpus of analysis as well as the methodology adopted. The third chapter has the task of briefly explaining the works by providing general characteristics with a focus on the characters and their social status. Chapters four and five are devoted to linguistic acts and strategies relevant to the analysis of politeness for the 18th and 19th centuries respectively. The study includes both a quantitative analysis of the acts to highlight the most interesting results regarding courtly strategies with tables and graphs, and a qualitative analysis with considerations accompanied by significant examples extracted from the texts. These data, compared in the sixth and final chapter, make it possible to identify the main diachronic trends affecting courtly strategies within the German language.
