L'impatto della NATO sui processi di democratizzazione nei paesi baltici: presupposti storici, visione Occidentale e punto di vista della Federazione Russa

Abstract

La tesi è dedicata all'analisi storica delle fonti riguardanti il ​​tema dell'adesione degli Stati baltici alla NATO considerando la visione Occidentale e il punto di vista della Federazione Russa. La prima parte della tesi descrive l'evoluzione delle relazioni tra i paesi baltici e la NATO. In questo capitolo ho cercato di tracciare le relazioni di Estonia, Lettonia e Lituania con le istituzioni dell'Occidente, prima della successiva adesione alla NATO, nonché i primi contatti con l'Alleanza. Questo capitolo contiene l'analisi dei documenti ufficiali e non ufficiali di varie strutture e organizzazioni di cui facevano parte gli Stati baltici, prima di entrare effettivamente nella NATO. Il secondo capitolo è dedicato alla storiografia della questione degli Stati baltici che aderiscono alla NATO da entrambe le prospettive: quella occidentale e quella degli studiosi russi. La storiografia, sia occidentale che russa, è stata descritta in determinati periodi: dal crollo dell'URSS all'ingresso degli Stati baltici nella NATO. Sono stati effettuati vari confronti tra argomenti trattati nelle fonti occidentali e russe, nonché esempi di argomenti chiave trattati nelle fonti. La letteratura storica occidentale tratta temi come ‘l'occidentalizzazione’ dei paesi baltici, il ruolo di questi paesi nella regione Baltica, la cosiddetta regionalizzazione, ed inoltre la possibile reazione della Russia all'adesione dei paesi baltici nelle strutture europee ( NATO e UE) dal punto di vista della costruzione di modelli teorici e di ulteriori analisi. Le fonti russe sull'argomento sono dedicate alla descrizione di fatti ed eventi reali, nonché all'analisi emotiva dei processi studiati: l'integrazione degli Stati baltici nella NATO. Pertanto, questa tesi è una revisione delle fonti ufficiali e della storiografia sul tema dell'integrazione dei paesi baltici nella NATO, della formazione dei processi democratici in questi paesi e della visione della Federazione Russa su questo tema.

This work is dedicated to the historic analysis of sources concerning the topic of the accession of the Baltic states into NATO through the lenses of Western and Russian scholars. The first part of the thesis describes the evolution of the relations between the Baltic countries and NATO. In this chapter I tried to trace the relations of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania with institutions of the West, before the eventual accession to NATO, as well as the first contacts with the Alliance. This chapter contains the analysis of official and non-official documents of various unions, structures and organizations the Baltic states were part of, before actually joining NATO. The second chapter is dedicated to the historiography of the issue of the Baltic States joining NATO from both perspectives: Western and the perspective of Russian scholars. The historiography, both Western and Russian, was described within certain periods: from the collapse of the USSR to the entry of the Baltic States into NATO. Various comparisons were made between topics covered in Western and Russian sources, as well as examples of key-topics that were covered in the sources. Western historical literature considers such topics as the “Westernization” of the Baltic countries, the role of these states in the Baltic region, so called regionalization, as well as the possible reaction of the Russia to the entry of the Baltic countries into European structures (NATO and the EU) from the point of view of building theoretical models and further analysis . Russian sources on the topic are devoted to the description of actual facts and events, as well as the emotional analysis of the processes being studied - the integration of the Baltic States into NATO. Thus, the work is a review of official sources and historiography on the topic of the integration of the Baltic countries into NATO, the formation of democratic processes in these countries and the position of the Russian Federation on this topic.
