Description
This model illustrates 1 square meter of Antarctic seabed (coordinates of its center: 74.6901°S, 164.1037°E, depth 22 metres) from the permanent Transect T1 (BTN_PNRA_T1) in Tethys Bay (Terra Nova Bay, Ross Sea, Antarctica) established in 2015 in the framework of the PNRA (Italian National Antarctic Research Program) project “ICE-LAPSE”. The model shows a large specimen of the sponge Mycale (Oxymycale) acerata Kirkpatrick, 1907 (annotation 1, specimen label: BTN_PNRA_T1_Myc_1) which has an estimated volume of 0,0226 cubic meters. The transect was recorded on November 14 2017 by Ian Hawes (NIWA) with a Sony A7s II (16mm). This 3D model represents the first virtual biological record acquired by the Italian National Antarctic Museum database to document the biodiversity of Terra Nova Bay through the use of photogrammetric techniques.
